George Weah grew up on the streets of Monrovia. He went on to become the only African to win the Ballon d'Or, and then he went into politics.
The striker won the Ballon d'Or in 1995 and was FIFA World Player of the Year the same year. At AC Milan he won Serie A twice, and before that he won Ligue 1 with PSG.
His career lasted from 1985 to 2003. It started at Mighty Barrolle, Bong Range and Invincible Eleven, went through Tonnerre Yaoundé and then Monaco, PSG, AC Milan, Chelsea, Manchester City and Marseille, and finished at Al Jazira. In 2018 he became President of Liberia, which is a long way from the streets of Monrovia and not a common next step for a centre-forward.
