Gianluigi Buffon has said his hero was a goalkeeper from Cameroon. It was Thomas N'Kono, who showed that Africa could produce keepers of world class.
Why is N'Kono at number 28?
He was African Footballer of the Year twice, in 1979 and 1982. He played at the 1982 and 1990 World Cups, won several league titles at home with Canon Yaoundé, then played in Spain for Espanyol, Hospitalet and Sabadell. His career lasted from 1973 to 1993, and he inspired a generation of keepers. Plenty of people still rate him the best goalkeeper Africa has produced.
