Kanu was 18 when he won the Champions League with Ajax in 1995. In 1996 he took Olympic gold with Nigeria in Atlanta.
The striker, who could also play just behind the forwards, had a career from 1992 to 2012 with Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Ajax, Inter Milan, Arsenal, West Bromwich Albion and Portsmouth. His time in England produced:
- two FA Cups with Arsenal, and one more with Portsmouth
- a hat-trick against Chelsea for Arsenal after coming off the bench
