Ronald Rugumayo’s fifth successive POA Sunshine Development Tour title in Entebbe on Saturday, his latest win at Uganda Golf Club, makes this Uganda golf’s hot topic today.
Godwin Okoko and Slade Pickering offered resistance, but Rugumayo birdied the opening hole, his favourite on the tour, after three straight red scores.
An imaginative approach set up a tap-in birdie on the par-four fifth, while bogeys on the eighth, 10th and 17th scarcely threatened his grip.
Okoko missed an eagle putt on the final hole that would have given him outright second, leaving him tied with Paul Adams, who posted the day’s best 66.
David Kamulindwa and Abraham Ainamani were the best-placed Ugandans behind them, finishing tied seventh.
Rugumayo now heads to Kigali for the Rwanda Open in possibly his finest form, with tee-to-green accuracy and strong putting making him a dangerous visitor.
The talking point is whether anyone can stop him after his only recent defeat came at the Chairman’s Bell in mid-July, where Grace Kasango beat him by one stroke.
