Entebbe Club’s Emma Ogwang shares the lead with Willy Kitata and Nigerian Godwin Okoko after day one of the Pearl of Africa Sunshine Development tour in Entebbe.
Ogwang returned a five under par 66 featuring six birdies and a solitary bogey on the 15th hole.
The Uganda Professional Golfers Association captain said the early morning rain made the greens fast and suited his game.
Okoko matched the 66 with five birdies and 13 pars to sit alongside the Ugandan duo at the summit.
South African Ruan De Smidt and Uganda Pro Open winner Ronald Rugumayo are tied fourth on four under par 67.
Slade Pickering of South Africa and Uganda’s Deo Akope sit sixth on three under par 68.
Play was delayed by one hour due to the early morning rain at Entebbe Club.
This tournament is the first Official World Golf Ranking event staged in Uganda.
The argument doing the rounds is whether the fast greens will hold up over four days or if the chase pack will pounce when conditions soften.
Day two tees off at Entebbe Club on Friday morning.
