Manchester City supporters face reckoning after Premier League findings

An independent commission has found Manchester City guilty of serious financial breaches across nine seasons from 2009-10 to 2017-18.

The Premier League published the core findings on October 11 confirming the club used sham commercial arrangements to inflate revenues and misstated accounts.

City intended to circumvent Premier League rules according to the commission conclusion.

The club responded that it is disappointed and surprised while maintaining innocence of the accusations.

An appeal will be pursued through the avenues open to the club.

Supporters now face an uncomfortable reckoning after years of denials created a fog of obfuscation around the allegations.

Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak wrote to fans three days before publication insisting confidence in proving innocence remained undiminished.

He invoked key moments including victories in Istanbul and at Wembley to rally the faithful.

The ownership that transformed perennial underachievers into a global powerhouse has now been found to have disgraced the club.

Rival supporters and pundits are demanding sanctions ranging from points deductions to stripping of titles.

The argument doing the rounds is whether an entire era of English football has been irreparably tainted by the findings.
