Pep Guardiola clashed with captain Kyle Walker during a turbulent period at Manchester City as revealed in a new Amazon Prime documentary titled A Beautiful Obsession.
The fly-on-the-wall series captures the immense strain the tactician faced during a difficult run in the autumn of 2024.
One of the lowest points for the club came when the outfit won only once in 13 games.
The footage shows a heated dressing room argument where Walker felt he was being unfairly singled out by his manager.
"You keep saying my name in every meeting," Walker complained following a defeat at Liverpool.
The England international also claimed that Guardiola did not actually want him to serve as the club captain.
Guardiola responded by telling the defender that he was taking the issue too personally.
The Spaniard appeared visibly emotional while explaining why he chose to extend his contract despite the poor results.
"If I am a problem you have to tell me," Guardiola said in a broken voice.
"I won't stay here for the money or just for the fact of staying. I extended my contract because I want to be with you. I want to fight. I don’t want you to feel like I’m leaving or running away," the manager added.
Manchester City chair Khaldoon al-Mubarak also revealed that the manager threatened to quit "100 times" during his tenure.
The argument doing the rounds is whether Guardiola's intense management style ultimately drove his decision to step down after a decade of success.
