Fifa COO Kevin Lamour sacked over Infantino criticism

Fifa Chief Operating Officer Kevin Lamour was sacked on 17 August 2026 following his public criticism of President Gianni Infantino's World Cup investment plans.

Lamour had spoken out against Infantino’s plan to sell parts of the World Cup to private investors, claiming the Fifa administration had been "deceived."

The departure of the former Uefa deputy secretary general comes after he dared Infantino to sack him for opposing the ill-fated scheme.

"If that means I lose my job, then so be it," Lamour had stated in a bold move on 31 July.

Fifa Secretary General Mattias Grafström confirmed the exit in an email to staff, marking a major shake-up within the governing body.

Much as the exact details remain under wraps, a Fifa spokesperson confirmed that the working relationship between the outfit and Lamour has ended.

This high-profile exit follows the resignation of senior adviser Carlos Cordeiro, who also stepped down in protest of Infantino’s proposals.

Lamour’s departure leaves Gianni Infantino under immense pressure as calls for his removal from office continue to grow.
