CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe said African football is undergoing structural transformation that has enhanced its commercial value and investment appeal. He spoke at the Global Perspectives conference organised by CNN in Doha, Qatar on Thursday.
Motsepe revealed discussions are ongoing about the scheduling of the Africa Cup of Nations after last year's shift to a four-year cycle. He said there is a will to revert to the old format and consultations continue.
The South African affirmed Africa's unanimous backing for incumbent FIFA President Gianni Infantino ahead of elections on 18 March next year in Rabat, Morocco. Motsepe described Infantino as a very good and loyal friend.
He addressed governance concerns, stating transparency and ethics are critically important given the continent's history. Motsepe said any allegations should go to the Ethics Committee for judgement.
He expressed confidence after a recent FIFA Council meeting that there is commitment to work together for football's benefit worldwide.
