EFC Threatens Club World Cup Boycott

EFC issued an ultimatum hours before Fifa scrapped its Forward Enterprise plan. The European Football Clubs group warned that future Club World Cup participation would depend on Gianni Infantino withdrawing his scheme. This came in a letter dated 31 July to Fifa’s secretary general. They cited concerns over a joint venture with Fifa that would control all commercial rights. If not finalized, EFC and its clubs would boycott.

Much as the FFE proposal collapses, EFC’s demands remain firm. They insist on exclusive authority over broadcasting and sponsorship. This threatens the 2028 Women’s Club World Cup rights. A major club even vowed support for collective action if governance improved.

Though Fifa claims to address concerns, EFC’s stance is clear. They flew to Hamburg for meetings but suspended the FFE. Their letter called Infantino’s actions a ‘substantial breach.’ In Uganda, fans note this could reshape global football dynamics. Football enthusiasts here will watch closely.

EFC’s threat hinges on Fifa agreeing to a joint venture. Without it, European clubs may walk away. This would collapse the Club World Cup.

The FFE’s collapse leaves questions. Will EFC push further? How will this affect African players in Europe? Ugandan spectators and analysts will dissect every move. The stakes are high for global football governance.
