Cricket Uganda met with Compassion International Uganda in Kampala on Thursday to explore strategic engagement for youth development and expand the sport's national footprint.
The meeting allowed leadership from both organisations to discuss how grassroots sports development could align with child-focused community transformation.
Cricket Uganda Chief Executive Officer Evelyn K.B. Shinyekwa and Honorary Secretary Denis Musali led the Cricket Uganda delegation.
They were joined by Edgar Kazibwe, while Compassion International Uganda was represented by Elijah Male and Agwang Aidah.
As a gesture of goodwill, the Cricket Uganda team presented official national team jerseys to the Compassion International Uganda representatives.
The two organisations highlighted the potential synergy between grassroots sports promotion and youth empowerment programs to build character and resilience.
“Cricket is far more than just a sport—it is a powerful tool for transformation, discipline, and character building,” Denis Musali said.
Musali added: “Compassion International Uganda is present in 125 districts across the country, giving them a level of reach that we currently do not have.
Establishing a strategic collaboration with them will put Cricket Uganda on the correct path toward meeting our national Sports Law requirements for countrywide coverage.
By exploring these synergies, we can introduce more children to the game, foster holistic youth development, and align with their core mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name,” Musali said.
Compassion International Uganda works through local church partners to equip, protect, and empower youth across the country.
