Cricket Cranes lose to Bahrain in Dar es Salaam

Cricket Cranes secured qualification for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup pathway despite a disappointing defeat to Bahrain in Dar es Salaam on Friday.

After losing the toss, the Ugandan outfit was bowled out for 204 in 48.1 overs before Bahrain chased the target to finish on 209 for 6.

Much as Raghav Dhawan anchored the innings with 80, the Cricket Cranes suffered a late collapse where the final five wickets fell for only nine runs.

Bahrain's Fiaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 78 to guide his side home with just two deliveries remaining in the match.

The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether the Cricket Cranes' technical team can fix the late-innings collapses that haunt the squad.

Despite the loss, the Uganda squad remains in the hunt after finishing the Challenge League B campaign on 22 points.

They will now look to ply their trade in the World Cup Qualifier Play-off alongside champions Italy.

Why did the Cricket Cranes lose to Bahrain?

Definition of the defeat stems from a batting collapse and missed fielding opportunities during the chase:

  • The final five wickets fell for only nine runs.
  • Players dropped multiple catches and missed run-out opportunities.
  • The bowling attack lacked sustained bite to force breakthroughs.

Match Results

  • Bahrain: 209/6 (49.4 overs)
  • Uganda: 204 (48.1 overs)

Standings

  • Italy: 26 points
  • Uganda: 22 points
