Colombia beat Uzbekistan 3-1 to top World Cup 2026 Group K

Colombia stormed to a 3-1 victory over Uzbekistan on Sunday in Mexico City, cruising to the top of World Cup 2026 Group K. Daniel Muñoz Mejía opened the scoring, Luis Fernando Díza Marulanda added a second and Jaminton Leandro Camparaz finished the job, while Abbosbek Saidzhon Ugli Fayzullaev grabbed a late consolation for the Asians.

How did Colombia clinch the Group K leader spot?

The first half belonged to the South Americans. Muñoz, who plies his trade at Crystal Palace, struck a low drive from the edge of the box after a slick one-two with Díza. The Colombian side never looked back, pressing high and forcing Uzbekistan into errors. Ten minutes later Díza, a veteran of the national team, curled a neat free‑kick into the top corner, leaving the Uzbek keeper stranded. By the interval the score read 2-0 and Colombia were already humming victory tunes.

What changed after the break?

Uzbekistan tried to revive hopes, switching to a more direct approach. Their persistence paid off in the 62nd minute when Fayzullaev slotted a rebound after a blocked shot, giving the visitors a glimmer of life. But the momentum was short‑lived; five minutes later Camparaz, the youthful midfielder, pounced on a loose ball in the box and hammered home his first World Cup goal. The final whistle confirmed a 3-1 win and Colombia’s place at the summit of Group K, while Uzbekistan slumped to second place.

Who will face Colombia next?

Colombia’s next challenge comes against the United States, a clash that could decide who tops the group outright. The South Americans will look to ride the confidence from Mexico City and keep their World Cup campaign on track.

Will Colombia maintain their form against tougher opposition?

If they keep the attacking fluency shown against Uzbekistan, Colombia are well placed to progress deep into the tournament.
