Egyptian giants Al Ahly came from behind to beat Kitara FC 2-1 in the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup second preliminary round tie at Hoima City Stadium on Saturday.
Gaddafi Wahab gave Kitara the lead in the 30th minute, converting a cross past Mohamed El Shenawy to raise hopes of a famous result for the hosts.
Omar Al-Saai drew Al Ahly level in the 67th minute after breaking through the Kitara defence and beating the goalkeeper.
Ahmed Sayed Zizo completed the comeback in the 79th minute, converting a penalty after Akram Tawfik was fouled inside the area.
The defeat leaves Kitara needing a win in the return leg in Cairo on October 25 to reach the group stage.
Coach Wasswa Bbosa remained optimistic despite the loss, saying the team would work on the mistakes made in the first leg.
Kitara had reached this stage after eliminating Somalia's Mogadishu City FC 4-1 on aggregate, with both legs played at Hoima City Stadium.
What Kitara must do in Cairo
Kitara must win by at least one goal to force extra time or by two clear goals to advance directly after losing 2-1 at home.
