Uganda has assembled 140 swimmers across Team A and Team B as the country prepares to defend its Africa Aquatics Zone III title in Kampala from October 21 to 25, 2026.

Coach Allan Kiiza confirmed the squad comprises over 80 athletes on Team A and 60 on Team B, describing the group as very strong and certain to retain the trophy.

The decision to field two teams allows more swimmers to gain regional competition experience while broadening the talent pool for future championships.

Kiiza said hosting at home gives Uganda the chance to bring both teams to the event, something that would not be possible at an away championship.

The competition will take place at the eight-lane pool of Kampala International School Uganda, an upgrade from the six-lane facilities used in previous editions.

Kiiza believes the wider lanes will help organisers manage the programme more efficiently by reducing the number of heats required.

He highlighted Tyra Muganzi, Zara Mbanga and Manuel Kitibwa as athletes to watch during the five-day championships.

Swimming captain Nathan Nsereko said the team must maintain the standards that have established Uganda as one of the region's leading swimming nations.

Uganda's water polo team will also compete as the sport takes centre stage at the regional championships.
