Kenya beat Uganda by three-hundredths of a second in the boys' 15-and-over 4x100m freestyle relay at the 11th Africa Aquatics Zone III Championships at Kampala International School Uganda on Friday.
Kenya clocked 3:36.83 to Uganda's 3:36.86 ending the hosts' unbeaten relay streak in a finish that demanded a second look at the scoreboard.
Uganda had led through Ryland Andrew Matthew and Jonathan Kaweesa before Alex Rumanyika and Matthew Mwase held on as Kenya closed the gap on the final legs.
Tanzania took third in 3:39.16 while Burundi and Rwanda finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The Kenyan contingent erupted in celebration as Uganda watched in near silence at the poolside.
Uganda responded by winning the other three relay events on Day Three including the girls' 14-and-under 400m freestyle relay in 4:14.54.
Gabriella Eleanor Ndyanabo, Mackayla Ssali, Shivon Nagginda and Gabriella Opolot Asima secured gold ahead of Tanzania and Kenya.
The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether the razor-thin loss will fire Uganda's swimmers or linger as a missed chance on home soil.
