National Council of Sports General Secretary Dr Patrick Bernard Ogwel warned rival boxing factions they face arrest and prosecution from Wednesday if they defy the law. Ogwel delivered the ultimatum at NCS headquarters on Tuesday while flagging off the Uganda Bombers squad departing for the African Boxing Championships in Nairobi.
The Bombers left for Kenya on October 15 targeting continental glory at the regional showpiece. Ogwel praised Uganda Boxing Federation president Moses Muhangi for keeping boxers active despite persistent administrative wrangles. He stressed the government recognises only UBF as the legitimate governing body registered with NCS.
Ogwel revealed multiple mediation meetings had failed to resolve the leadership dispute. He cited an official instrument issued on September 15 directing all entities to follow UBF guidance, followed by a directive from the Attorney General to the Inspector General of Police on October 2. The NCS chief said the crackdown aims to protect a sport offering life-changing opportunities to young Ugandans.
NCS will publish an official list of fully compliant and licensed national sports federations before the end of the week.
