David Moyes has heaped praise on Thierno Barry after the striker found the onion bag four times in two games for Everton. The Toffees shut out Crystal Palace 2-0 in their Premier League opener before hammering Preston North End 4-0 in the Rumbelows Cup, and the new front man is already giving the Everton faithful plenty to cheer about. Moyes said Barry had worked hard on his game. “He’s tried to improve himself. Of course, we give him confidence and we do every game, but ultimately, you have to get it yourself.” Moyes also gave a fitness update ahead of the trip to Bournemouth for the 3pm kick-off. Hayden Hackney is touch and go after rolling an ankle, while Christian Nørgaard is still not making great progress. Moyes admitted the Dane is unlikely to return quickly. The Everton boss then turned to recruitment, and would not be drawn on a potential return for Jack Grealish after his loan spell last season. Moyes insisted the club is still hunting the market before the window closes on 1 September, with scouts out across South America and Europe. The argument doing the rounds among Evertonians is whether Barry is the real deal or simply a man in form. Two goals against Palace, two more against Preston, and the jury is still out.

Moyes refused to discuss a move for the winger, who spent last season on loan at Everton. “Jack was brilliant for us, a great boy, but he’s at another club,” Moyes said, adding that the Toffees are not in a hurry to sell their best players either.
