KCCA women opened their Uganda Volleyball National Club Championship title defence with a 3-0 win over UPDF at UCU Mukono on Saturday. The Venoms cruised through straight sets of 26-6, 25-15 and 25-13 in Pool A.
Captain Claire Najjuko admitted the early walkover against an absent opponent made it hard to gauge momentum before the UPDF clash. The champions missed a full opening match and face an uncertain pool finish.
Hosts UCU recovered from a tight third set loss to edge UPDF 3-1 with scores of 25-19, 25-18, 24-26 and 25-19. The result leaves Pool A finely poised ahead of the final round of fixtures.
Sport-S dominated COBAP 3-0 in Pool B winning 25-17, 25-11 and 25-11. Nemostars matched that statement by sweeping BSU 3-0 with 25-18, 25-18 and 25-14.
KCB-Nkumba impressed in Pool C crushing Seroma 3-0 then demolishing Thunders 3-0 by 25-12, 25-12 and 25-7. Seroma bounced back to edge KAVC 3-2 in a five-set thriller decided 15-5.
VVC opened Pool D with 3-0 wins over KU and Sport-S B. KU responded by routing St Charles 3-0 with 25-13, 25-12 and 25-11.
The argument doing the rounds in Mukono is whether KCCA can handle the target on their backs after a disrupted start.
