Uganda fell by 51 runs to Hong Kong-China at the NTS Ground, TCA Arena – UDSM in Dar es Salaam on Thursday to stay in the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup qualification race.
Two consecutive defeats in Dar es Salaam have tightened the complexion of the Cranes' campaign as they remain on 20 points.
Italy currently leads the standings on net run rate, while Hong Kong-China move to 18 points following this latest encounter.
Much as the batting unit struggled, the Cricket Cranes' bowlers showed grit by dismissing Hong Kong-China for 170 after they had reached 75/1.
Joseph Baguma and Henry Ssenyondo both claimed three wickets apiece to lead the bowling attack.
Notably, Ssenyondo's 3/29 makes him the first Ugandan to reach 50 List A career wickets.
How did Uganda lose to Hong Kong-China?
Uganda collapsed to 119 all out in 36.5 overs after a disastrous start left them reeling at 2/2.
Young star boy Gerald Olipa provided a glimmer of hope with a determined 60 from 101 balls.
Assistant coach Jackson Ogwang admitted the outfit struggled to adapt to the turning wickets and must win their remaining matches to progress.
“We have to be honest with ourselves. We have not adjusted quickly enough to these wickets, especially when batting,” Ogwang said.
