Uganda fall to Italy in Challenge League B clash

Uganda lost to Italy by 113 runs at the NTS Ground, TCA Arena – UDSM on Monday during an ICC Cricket World Cup Challenge League B fixture in Dar Es Salaam.

Italy posted 192/9 from 50 overs before Uganda crumbled to 79 all out in 31.1 overs, suffering their first defeat of this three-legged campaign.

The result moves Italy to 20 points, matching Uganda at the top of the table, but the Italians lead courtesy of a superior Net Run Rate of 2.469.

Much as the Cricket Cranes lost, the tacticians must regroup quickly as they return to the same venue tomorrow to face Hong Kong-China.

Sumeet Verma led the Italian attack with 4/49, while Alpesh Ramjani provided 2/27 as Italy reached their total.

Uganda struggled significantly after reaching 43/1, losing five wickets for just 12 runs to allow the Italian spinners to dominate the turning surface.

Rakibul Hasan was the chief destroyer for the visitors, returning elite figures of 6/18 from his 10 overs.

Head coach Steve Tikolo acknowledged that the wicket was difficult for batting but noted the squad had not shown their full potential.

How did Uganda perform against Italy?

Uganda failed to chase 192 runs, being bowled out for 79 in 31.1 overs due to a middle-order collapse.
