Uganda Cubs entered residential camp at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru, on Sunday 13th September 2026 ahead of the CECAFA U17 Championship in Rwanda from 10th-19th October 2026.
The provisional squad of 39 players is undergoing assessment under head coach Laryea Kingston with assistant coach Steven Bengo leading sessions.
The group comprises six goalkeepers, 15 defenders, nine midfielders and nine forwards selected from schools and academies across the country.
Several players featured in the previous CECAFA U17 Championship in Ethiopia where Uganda finished runners-up to Tanzania after a 3-2 final defeat.
That campaign secured qualification for the 2025 AFCON U17 and a second consecutive FIFA U17 World Cup appearance.
New talents identified through the FUFA Schools of Excellence programme supported by the FIFA Talent Development Scheme are also included.
Intensive training continues until early October before the team travels to Rwanda for the regional tournament.
Uganda has won consecutive CECAFA U17 titles before finishing second in the last edition.
The Talking Point: the argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether the Schools of Excellence graduates can handle the step up to a regional championship where Tanzania set a ruthless benchmark.
