Uganda Cranes coach Paul Put has called for patience with the nine new heritage players added to the squad for the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

The tactician said the group needs time to gel despite an impressive start from debutants Arnold Vula and Kelvin Owusu Boateng.

Vula scored the lone goal in the 1-0 win over Libya on Tuesday at Mandela National Stadium to hand Uganda top spot in Group H.

Put praised the first-half performance against a strong Libyan side and thanked the faithful for turning up in big numbers.

The Cranes have since travelled to South Africa for two friendlies against DR Congo where more heritage players will be tested.

Uganda sits on four points, two clear of Botswana and Tunisia, while Libya remains on one point.

The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether the heritage recruits can sustain the intensity when the qualifiers resume next year.

  • Uganda 1-0 Libya (Vula)
  • Group H: Uganda 4pts, Botswana 2pts, Tunisia 2pts, Libya 1pt
