Uganda Cranes beat Libya 1-0 at Hoima City Stadium on Monday to lead Group H of the 2027 Afcon qualifiers.
Debutant Arnold Vula Lamb Luth headed the winner on the stroke of half-time from Allan Okello's free-kick.
The Beerschot VA forward scored in the second minute of added time to hand the Cranes three points.
Coach Joseph Paul Put praised the 27-year-old after the match.
"He is a kind of player who can score a goal from nothing," Put said.
Put revealed he had tracked Vula for a long time, citing 15 goals and seven assists last season.
"You need to have luck by your side as a coach to bring in a player and he scores," Put added.
Libya's Ezzeddin Elmaremi missed two clear chances, including a late empty-net opportunity.
Captain Denis Onyango denied Elmaremi from close range in the 23rd minute.
Uganda now top Group H with four points after an opening draw away to Tunisia.
Botswana and Tunisia drew 2-2 in the other group fixture.
The Cranes host Botswana on 11 November 2026 in Hoima for matchday three.
Three days later Uganda travel to Gaborone for the return fixture against Botswana.
