UCU Canons clinch NBL bronze with Rezlife Saints win

UCU Canons secured third place in the ongoing National Basketball League playoffs on Sunday evening.

The Canons earned a well-deserved 72-64 victory against Rezlife Saints at Lugogo Indoor Arena to claim the NBL bronze medal.

Michael Otieno got the game underway with a trip to the charity line before Ibanda Lwabaga responded with a driving layup.

Alier Pech’s jump shot capped off the opening frame as the Canons held a slim one-point lead.

The second quarter was end-to-end as the two sides went toe to toe, but Hon Kwany’s buzzer beater levelled the game at 28-28.

Jimmy Otim ignited the crowd with a three-pointer coming out of the break, though Kwany responded immediately with a jump shot.

UCU Canons dropped three uncontested baskets to close the frame with an eight-point lead heading into the final period.

While the final quarter remained an even affair, the Canons eventually held on to secure the victory on the day.
