Real Madrid centre-back Raul Asencio reportedly rejected a move to Chelsea over the summer despite a lucrative contract offer. The 23-year-old Spaniard was made available for transfer at the end of last season. Spanish outlet Marca claims Chelsea and Liverpool both showed strong interest in the defender. Asencio also received a huge proposal from a Turkish club but declined all approaches. He opted to stay in Madrid and compete for a starting berth under Carlo Ancelotti. His decision looks timely after Dean Huijsen was sent off in the Madrid derby. Ibrahima Konate's injury situation at Liverpool also remains unclear for the Reds. Asencio could now make his first appearance of the campaign against Villarreal next month. A move to Stamford Bridge would have reunited him with former Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso. The pair worked together during Alonso's brief eight-month spell at the Bernabeu. Chelsea allegedly tabled a mega offer to secure his signature. The Blues instead added Valentin Barco, Pep Chavarria, Maxence Lacroix and Marco Palestra to their defensive ranks. Enzo Maresca's side currently sit 10th in the Premier League table after a mixed start.
