Brighton midfielder Pascal Gross announced his international retirement with Germany moments after starring in a 3-0 Premier League demolition of Arsenal at the Amex on Saturday.
The 35-year-old scored once and provided an assist as Fabian Hurzeler's Seagulls delivered a complete performance before the international break.
Gross took his season tally to four goals and four assists in just eight appearances across all competitions since returning from Borussia Dortmund in the summer.
"Officially – since I don't have social media – I haven't announced my retirement, but I have already retired," the 19-cap midfielder told Sky Sports after the final whistle.
Gross said his decision was made after the World Cup and he now wishes the new generation nothing but the best as he focuses entirely on club duties.
Manager Hurzeler compared his veteran playmaker to fine wine, insisting Gross gets better with age and praising the immeasurable qualities he brings daily.

Gross admitted the coming three-day cycle will test squad depth but backed the group to compete given the strength in numbers assembled this term.
