Uganda’s Dr Godfrey Nsereko has set his sights on continental rally glory for 2027 after sealing the 2026 African Rally Championship ARC4 title on his debut at the Serengeti Tanzania Rally last weekend. Driving a South African-built Toyota Etios and co-driven by John Bosco Musisi, Nsereko dominated the two-wheel-drive class and pushed for a top-six overall finish with consistently strong stage times.
"Come 2027, we are going full throttle. We want to shoot for the African title again and rubber-stamp our names on the continent’s motor sport hall of fame," Nsereko told The Observer.
Musisi believes their success, despite competing in only three events this season, proves they can compete for bigger continental honours with improved preparation and a stronger budget.
The Serengeti challenge was far from comfortable. Nsereko had to contend with hot, humid conditions and rough, sandy stages before sealing the ARC4 crown. Uganda enjoyed another strong ARC2 showing through Oscar Ntambi and Pius Luggya, who won the ARC2 class and finished fifth overall.
Meanwhile, 2025 African champion Yasin Nasser, partnered by Ali Katumba, delivered as planned for sponsors Moil Tanzania, securing a podium finish.
Attention now turns to Gulu, where Round Six of the KCB National Rally Championship (NRC) is due this weekend, October 8 to 10, 2026.
