Manchester United Premier League slump worries Carrick after City loss

Manchester United sit 13th in the Premier League after collecting just four points from their opening four matches following a 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday.

The Red Devils lost 2-0 at Hull, thrashed Ipswich 5-2, drew 2-2 at Everton and fell to Erling Haaland's controversial winner against City.

Pro Ref admitted the VAR erred in allowing Haaland's strike after Enzo Fernandez was deemed not to be interfering and the official has been stood down.

Carrick believes the injustice gives his squad an edge ahead of Wednesday's Carabao Cup clash with Brighton at Old Trafford.

The manager said the players have bounced back well from setbacks since he arrived and they must rediscover the winning habit quickly.

Carrick guided United to third as interim last season after Ruben Amorim's sacking but permanent results have worsened echoing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's trajectory.

Luke Shaw may return from a knock for the Brighton tie as United chase a first trophy under Carrick's permanent reign.

Manchester United Premier League record 2025-26
