Manchester City have lodged an appeal against an independent commission's guilty verdict on 114 of 115 Premier League financial charges.
The panel found the club arranged sham sponsorship deals inflating revenue by nearly £900 million, a ruling the club strongly denies.
City claim they possess irrefutable evidence to prove their innocence and expect the appeal to be heard within 12 weeks.
If the appeal fails, potential sanctions include expulsion from the Premier League, points deductions, transfer embargos and heavy fines.
Premier League clubs remain split on what punishment would be appropriate should the verdict stand.
The argument doing the rounds in Kampala betting circles is whether City will actually play next season or if a points penalty opens the title race for Arsenal and Liverpool.
Summer signing Iliman Ndiaye addressed the situation while on Senegal duty, admitting the Marseille chapter may not be closed.
"The fans' shouts asking me to come back to OM? It's nice. I don't think the story is over, but we'll see," Ndiaye told reporters.
The Senegal international has featured four times since his £65 million move from Everton without a goal or assist.
City return to action next week against AEK Athens in the Champions League before travelling to Aston Villa in the league.
Former Everton manager Sean Dyche warned the case could open a can of worms for English football governance.
