Lugazi FC held league leaders BUL FC to a 0-0 draw at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe on Tuesday evening, ending the visitors' perfect winning run in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
Richard Ayiko was Lugazi's standout performer, earning the Man of the Match award after a commanding display in defence as the hosts held the league leaders at bay on Matchday Six.
The result also offered a reunion of sorts for Lugazi coach Abbey Kikomeko, who faced his former employers BUL in a closely contested encounter that produced chances at both ends but no goals.
Both sides showed attacking intent from the opening exchanges, but neither could find the breakthrough as the match finished goalless.
BUL returned from the break with Martin Aprem replacing Byabacwezi as Alex Isabirye's side sought to take control of the contest.
The visitors enjoyed a spell of possession, but Lugazi's defence, marshalled by Ayiko, remained organised and cleared danger repeatedly.
The game grew increasingly physical, with Masembe booked for BUL in the 60th minute, followed by Lugazi's Amagu Anguti a minute later.
Lugazi introduced Adam Mutesasira for Dickson Mataama in the 65th minute as the hosts looked for fresh attacking impetus.
The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether BUL's unbeaten start was more fragile than the table suggested or if Lugazi's defensive shape is the real deal.
