Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall says the pain of missing England's World Cup squad is driving his push to win over manager Thomas Tuchel.
Hall earned an immediate recall after a strong start to the Premier League season with the Magpies.
He signed a new contract at St James' Park and is determined to make the left-back position his own.
"I'm using that frustration and I think anyone who was not in the squad is going to be disappointed," Hall said.
The 20-year-old described the battle for places as healthy competition that pushes the nation forward.
Hall is in line to feature against Czech Republic with Nico O'Reily an injury doubt.
He revealed sympathy for Tuchel after the summer phone call confirming his World Cup omission.
"As much as it's not a nice phone call for me to receive, I know it's obviously tough for him," Hall added.
The former Chelsea academy product made his England debut under Tuchel earlier this month.
Hall watched every World Cup match despite his absence from the tournament in Germany.
He insists the details of his conversation with Tuchel will remain private between the pair.
The Newcastle defender wants to seize any opportunity to cement his place in the squad.
Champions League football returns to St James' Park this season after a 20-year absence.
Hall's versatility allows him to operate at left-back or in midfield for club and country.
Newcastle sit seventh in the Premier League table after eight matches played.
Next up for the Magpies is a home clash with Brighton at the weekend.
