Lee Cattermole has been sacked as Gateshead manager after just 12 league games in charge.
The former Sunderland midfielder oversaw one win and ten defeats to leave the club bottom of the National League.
A 2-1 loss to Worthing on Saturday triggered a fiery post-match interview where Cattermole claimed people at the club did not want the team to succeed.
Director Mark Nellist resigned in September and withdrew financial backing leaving staff and players unpaid.
Cattermole said he had been managing the chaos and trying to put a positive spin on preparations.
Ben Clark has been appointed interim manager to replace Cattermole.
The club is appealing to shareholders to continue funding support after Nellist tried to hand his shares to Stephen Paylor.
Gateshead sit eight points adrift of safety in the National League.
