Watoto fought back after trailing early, with Elijah Nsereko scoring a buzzer-beater to give them a 33-31 halftime lead. But KIU responded in the third quarter, limiting Watoto to two field goals in the opening six minutes.

Nsereko led Watoto with 14 points. Sydney David Walusimbi added 13 points, 18 rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Victor Makmot contributed nine points and 10 rebounds.
KIU will return to YMCA on Friday for Game Two, aiming to extend their lead. Watoto will need to improve their closing minutes if they are to level the series.
