KCCA FC beat URA FC 1-0 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo on Friday night, but on social media the talk was about shirts as much as the score.
Ivan Ahimbisibwe scored the only goal in the 58th minute of the Uganda Premier League matchday 5 game, played on Independence Day evening with an 8pm kickoff.
The kit question
At 8.04pm, radio presenter Ronnie Santos Mwine posted on X that the two teams' colours had clashed and that the away team had to change. He called it a basic mistake "in this era of professional football". His post passed 6,500 views by Saturday and #urakcca trended in Uganda.
Fans were split. Some blamed the KCCA kit staff and asked how a club does not know the home team's colours. Others said there was no clash at all, and some pointed out that similar kit mix ups happen in other leagues too.
Neither club nor the league had said anything official about the kits when we published this. If they do, we will add it here.
The match in numbers
| URA FC | KCCA FC | |
|---|---|---|
| Goals | 0 | 1 (Ahimbisibwe 58') |
| Yellow cards | 3 (20', 27', 31') | 2 (33', 54') |
URA picked up all three of their bookings in the first 31 minutes. KCCA's winner came early in the second half and they held on for the three points.
Where the facts come from
Score, scorer, cards, venue and kickoff time come from the official match record on upl.co.ug. The kit discussion comes from public posts on X.
