Jack Grealish made an unexpected return to the Manchester City team on Sunday during their 3-0 Community Shield defeat to Arsenal at Cardiff.
The 30-year-old winger was introduced at half-time to replace Jeremy Doku while the City outfit trailed 2-0.
This appearance marks Grealish's 158th game for the club and his first since a late substitute appearance against Bournemouth in May 2025.
He played 45 minutes on the left wing and completed 21 of his 24 passes during the match.
Much as his future remains uncertain, new boss Enzo Maresca noted that Grealish was good during his spell on the pitch.
“The ones that are still here, they are going to work every day, and if they deserve it they are going to get minutes,” Maresca said.
“The transfer window is open and we will see what happens,” the tactician added.
Grealish had previously been left out of the squad for the club's tour to Asia earlier this summer due to injury.
His career at City recently hit a low point, including a loan spell at Everton last season that did not become permanent.
Previously, the former Aston Villa man helped City secure the Treble in 2022-23 before falling out of favour.
Is Jack Grealish back for Manchester City?
Jack Grealish's return to the matchday squad suggests he might be seeking a lifeline to regain his place in the City squad.
While pundit Pat Nevin noted the player looks to be in good nick, his future remains tied to the current transfer window.
