"To say we're the worst team in Premier League history, it's not a bad start from the boys," the Scotland international told reporters.
Liam Millar's late strike settled a gritty contest and left the Tigers dreaming on their top-flight return.
McBurnie added: "We don't feel we have anything to prove to anyone. We're there on merit, we deserve to be there."
Sergej Jakirovic's men now sit second in the early table after the opening day victory over Manchester United.
Hull are the first promoted side to win their opening two games in nine years, since Huddersfield in 2017-18.
Only three teams have ever been relegated after winning their first two Premier League games — Wolves in 2011-12, the Tigers themselves in 2016-17, and West Brom in 2017-18.
Semi Ajayi dominated at the back while Nobel Mendy and Lucas Gourna-Douath towered over the midfield.
Coventry, back in the top flight after 25 years away, suffered a second successive defeat and a crushing dose of reality.
The Sky Blues had almost 70% possession but could not break Hull down as frustration grew at the CBS Arena.
