The 2014 Champions League Final against Atlético Madrid was all but lost. Then, in the 93rd minute, Sergio Ramos rose to head the equaliser, and Real Madrid went on to win the trophy. It is one of the best-known moments in the competition's history, and it is the most Ramos thing he ever did.
Real Madrid won the Champions League 4 times with him, and he scored in more than one of those finals. With Spain he won the 2010 World Cup, Euro 2008 and Euro 2012, three major international trophies.
Goals, red cards and everything in between
- Over 100 career goals as a centre-back, among the highest totals for any defender.
- The record for the most red cards in La Liga history.
- La Liga titles on top of the European and international haul.
Supporters either love him or hate him, and very few sit in the middle. He was the hero and the villain of Spanish football, often in the same week.
Put it together and you get perhaps the most decorated Spanish defender of all time, and certainly the most dramatic. The header alone would earn him a place on this list. The goals, the cards and the trophies take him to number 18.
Tomorrow, number 17.
