Christopher Bonney has arrived at Kitara FC with a clear mission to make a positive impact on the club's rich history. The 24-year-old Ghanaian utility defender, who joined in June, is comfortable across the backline and in midfield. He says the club, players, officials and fans have welcomed him with open hands since his arrival in Uganda.
Much as he is settling in, Bonney is already focused on delivering glory for the Hoima-based outfit. He has featured in both StarTimes Uganda Premier League matches and the CAF Confederation Cup ties against Mogadishu City Council. The Royals are now preparing for a two-legged duel against Egyptian giants Al Ahly, with a place in the group stages on the line.
Bonney brings serious pedigree. He has 20 caps for Ghana, having played for the U-17, U-20 and senior Black Stars sides. He won the Ghana Premier League twice with Asante Kotoko and the MTN FA Cup with Hearts of Oak. His experience is seen as vital as Kitara attempt to ply their trade on two fronts.
The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether foreign signings like Bonney can truly integrate and deliver under the pressure of CAF competition. Ask any Kitara supporter and you get one of two answers: either he is the experienced hand they need, or he is another import who will fade when the stakes rise.
