SC Villa captain David Owori died last week following a violent attack near his Makindye home on August 3.
The 27-year-old midfielder, who also played for the Uganda Cranes, was admitted to Case Clinic after suffering multiple injuries during the assault.
SC Villa described the tragedy as a devastating loss to the club and the country while calling for a thorough investigation.
Parliament also mourned the star boy after Opposition Chief Whip Paul Mwiru raised his death as a matter of national importance.
Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa asked the House to observe a minute of silence as Third Deputy Prime Minister Rukia Isanga Nakad FOL pledged government action.
The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether security forces are doing enough to protect sports personalities from the rising threat of violent gangs.
Mark Ssali of the National Council of Sports noted that security forces need to work aggressively on these gangs that are terrorising urban centres.

Owori was laid to rest on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at his ancestral home in Awuyu village, Tororo district.
