Cricket Uganda has thrown its weight behind the Rotary Cancer Run 2026, purchasing 50 running kits alongside the Rotaract Club of Kampala South ahead of Sunday's race at Kololo Independence Grounds.
The fundraising run, scheduled for August 30 starting at 6:00 AM, will also play out in major towns across the country as Uganda battles a rising cancer crisis driven by late diagnoses and steep care costs.
Rotaract Club of Kampala South president Muhwenda Emmanuel Mukisa was on hand at the Cricket Uganda offices to hand over the kits, urging the cricketing fraternity to join the cause.
"We believe that all cricketers are going to be part of this event," Mukisa said, calling on Ugandans to purchase kits at Shs30,000 each.
Cricket Uganda CEO Evelyn K.B Shinyekwa framed the partnership as sport doing its off-field duty.
"Sport goes beyond the boundaries of the pitch; it is about building a healthier, stronger community," she said, adding that the federation will mobilise players, fans and sports enthusiasts to turn up at Kololo in large numbers.
It is a tidy gesture from a board that is usually busy with bat and ball, and a reminder that the Cricket Cranes' off-field work is now part of the brand too.
