Uganda Cricket Cranes open their 2028 ICC Men's T20 World Cup qualification campaign at the ICC Sub-Regional Qualifier C in Abuja, Nigeria, from October 18 to 25.
The six-team tournament includes hosts Nigeria, Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia and Uganda battling for two regional final spots.
A planned six-match bilateral tour of Kenya from October 5 to 13 featuring three 50-over and three T20 fixtures was cancelled, trimming Uganda's preparation.
Uganda A will instead face Jersey at Entebbe Cricket Oval on October 17 and 18 in practice matches for the second-string side.
The senior squad then travels to West Africa for the sub-regional qualifier, the first step on a long pathway to the 20-team tournament in Australia and New Zealand.
Twelve teams have already qualified directly for 2028, including co-hosts Australia and New Zealand plus eight 2026 Super Eight finishers.
Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Ireland claimed the remaining direct slots via ICC T20I rankings, leaving eight places for the global qualification route.
Uganda must negotiate sub-regional and regional stages to reach the Global Qualifier where the final eight World Cup berths will be decided.
The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether the cancelled Kenya series leaves the Cranes undercooked for a qualifier where only the top two advance.
Fixtures:
- Uganda A vs Jersey, Entebbe Cricket Oval, October 17-18
- ICC Sub-Regional Qualifier C, Abuja, Nigeria, October 18-25
- Uganda, Nigeria, Gambia, Lesotho, Mozambique, Zambia competing
- Top two advance to 2027 regional final
