Baby Victoria Pearls were officially flagged off at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Wednesday for the ICC U19 Women's T20 World Cup Africa Division 1 Qualifier in Dar es Salaam.

National Council of Sports representative Sarah Chelangat led the send-off alongside Cricket Uganda president Jackson Kavuma and acting CEO Evelyn Shinyekwa.

The tournament runs from 28 August to 6 September with only the champion earning a ticket to the 2027 World Cup in Bangladesh and Nepal.

Head coach Brian Masaba and assistant Ivan Kakande oversaw a rigorous residential camp in Kololo to prepare the squad.

MVP Sarah Tino and leading wicket-taker Asha Mukite headline a 14-player squad captained by Jimia Abdallah Mohamed.

Uganda opens Group A against Nigeria on Sunday before facing hosts Tanzania on Monday and Malawi on Wednesday.

The argument doing the rounds in Kampala is whether the Pearls can handle the pressure of playing the hosts in their second match.
