African footballers stamped their authority on the English Premier League as Matchday 2 of the 2026/27 season delivered goals, assists and breakout moments from across the continent.
Ghanaian forward Antoine Semenyo provided a crucial assist for Manchester City, DR Congo's Yoane Wissa scored for Newcastle United, Ivorian youngster Malick Yalcouyé opened his Premier League account for Brighton, and Cameroon's Bryan Mbeumo got on the scoresheet in Manchester United's 5-2 rout of Ipswich Town.
Semenyo continues strong Manchester City start
Semenyo was among the standout African performers as Manchester City beat Crystal Palace 4-1 at Selhurst Park, completing the full 90 minutes and laying on the cross for Erling Haaland's opener in the 17th minute.
The Ghanaian also registered two shots, created three chances and attempted four crosses in an energetic showing that underlined his growing importance to City's attack.
He had already gone the distance in City's opening-day 2-1 win over Bournemouth, meaning the Ghana star has begun the campaign in fine form.
Wissa breaks his duck for Newcastle
DR Congo forward Wissa produced one of the weekend's biggest African moments, scoring Newcastle's second goal in their 2-0 victory away to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Anthony Elanga broke the deadlock in the 62nd minute before Wissa doubled the advantage ten minutes later with an impressive finish that capped a sweeping Newcastle display.
The goal was Wissa's first Premier League strike of 2026 and helped hand Newcastle their first league win under manager Matthias Jaissle, with the Congolese forward combining effectively with Elanga to expose Spurs' defensive frailties.
Yalcouyé opens his Brighton account
At Stamford Bridge, the Ivorian midfielder Yalcouyé marked his first Premier League start with a stunning volley in the 35th minute, handing Brighton hope against Chelsea.
The breakthrough capped a memorable Matchday 2 for African talent plying their trade across England's top flight, with Mbeumo's goal against Ipswich further evidence of the continent's growing influence.
